Cafe Gaby Date of visit 14th September
This place is identified from the street as the House of Gabriel and it comprises the Cafe Gabby indoor/outdoor cafe, an art gallery and an Antiques & Curios store. It is set on the banks of the Tweed River about 22Klms south of Coolangatta in the lush Tweed Valley.
We took a table in the garden, underneath a grape vine and next to the fish pond. It is a BYO cafe with a $2p.p. corkage fee.
The Steak Sandwich was described in their menu as:
Open Steak Sandwich on toasted Turkish with garlic aioli, cheese, tomato, lettuce & caramelised onion served with house fries $18.50
Bill chose Fennel infused Sweet Bangalow pork sausage served with potato mash, caramelised onion, fresh beans and white wine gravy $20.00
My steak sandwich was impressively presented as an open sandwich topped with shaved sweet potato. The meat was tender and gristle-free rib fillet.
I was asked how I wanted my steak cooked (always a winner), but alas, no beetroot.
Bill thought that his upmarket banger and mash was in the top 5% of all of the banger and mash meals he has ever had. You will note that it is a sausage, not sausages there is no need to serve you more than one of these very large sausages presented in a ring shape.
This was not my first visit to CafeGabby, nor will it be my last.
I welcome your feedback and if you want to cast a vote for CafeGaby, please go ahead.
