Greenmount Surf Club

This is the 2nd most southerly of all of the surf clubs on the Gold Coast, facing north and providing panoramic views from its very large balcony up the coastline to Runaway Bay.

The building is old fashioned and basic, housing both the lifesaving (ground floor) and social club (upstairs) areas. There is no disabled access but we understand that a planned renovation will include a lift.

The interior of the social club is clean, comfortable and casual.

This club offers a steak burger instead of a steak sandwich and it is described on the menu as:

Gourmet Steak Burger with Onion jam, Cheese, Tomato, salad greens, aioli & fries $15.90

Denise ordered Tempura Prawns & Calamari and our friend Max ordered Crispy Skinned Salmon.

I was impressed with the speed at which we were served but was disappointed that the bun of my burger was not toasted on the outside and that the “toasting” on the inside was confined to a narrow strip around part of the outside edge of the bun. There was no butter on my bun.

Any burger or steak sandwich that is offered to me loses marks if it does not contain beetroot (I think that those who don’t want beetroot can order it without the beetroot). Having said that, I found that the ingredients were quite good, the steak was tender, I liked the treatment of the onions and the Swiss cheese was most welcome.

Denise and Max were both impressed with their meals, Denise rating her Calamari & Prawns as being better than the meal that she had at Rainbow Bay the previous week (and she enjoyed that) and Max said that his meal was as good as any surf club that he’d been to, rating it alongside Tallebudgera Surf Club.

The steak burger here loses in comparison with the steak sandwich that I had at Rainbow Bay, but it is nearly $3 cheaper and that counts.
