July 2025
The whales are heading back to the Gold Coast this month! To celebrate, The Gold Coast Whale and Ocean Festival at Justin Park, Burleigh on the 5th July, is a free event giving the public the opportunity to learn about our local marine life. We are also hosting the 45th Edition of the Gold Coast Marathon on the 5th and 6th. If you have a 'need for speed' and enjoy boats, the GC Offshore Superboat Grand Prix is going to be a spectacle to watch off Main Beach on the 25th, the Supercat Extreme boats are capable of speeds up to 200kph. On the weekend of the 26th and 27th The Gold Coast Car Show is a great family event with a variety of cars, bikes and trucks on show, live music, food trucks and rides for the kids, it's being held at the Mudgeeraba Showgrounds. Kids under 12yo are free. There's also a free Christmas in July Family Fun Day on the 26th at the Labrador Community Centre, an outdoor beach style xmas party with live entertainment, craft activities, games, jumping castle, face painting and a visit from an 'Aussie Santa'. The Bleach Festival begins on the 31st until 10th August, this is our city's signature celebration of the rich diversity of our multicultural city, arts & culture. The event is spread across Kurrawa Park at Broadbeach, Emerald Lakes and HOTA.
An Australian exclusive exhibition from the British Library and National Portrait Gallery London is being presented as Writers Revealed at the HOTA Gallery until 3rd August 2025, a treasure chest from as far back as six centuries of world famous portraits of literary legends, rare manuscripts, letters and more to observe.
Movieworld has recently opened a world-first 'WIZARD OF OZ' precinct featuring new family-friendly rides, including The flight of The Wicked Witch and the family boomerang racer, Kansas Twister. We have had quite a few families visit Bluey's World in Brisbane since it's opening last November, it's a huge attaction for the kids and well worth a visit if your kids (and you!) love the Bluey TV Series.
If you're a Harry Potter fan, for a limited time only, Sirromet Winery is hosting a 'Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest' experience, explore the dark depths of the forest and the wizardry world, located at Mt Cotton, just south of Brisbane.

All beaches are patrolled from 8am-5pm during Queensland School Holidays, most are patrolled all year round. Never swim outside the flags or at beaches not patrolled by Life Guards. Here is a link to a map of patrolled Gold Coast beaches
There are many excellent picnic areas on the Gold Coast, a favourite being Tallebudgera Lagoon on the south side of the Burleigh Headland and the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens in Benowa.
